Abstract
The « faux-poisson » (FP) is a fraction of the bycacth sold to the local market in Abidjan, Ivory
Coast, since the beginning of the year 1980. From January 30th until February 14th 2018, a test
estimation approach to know the specific composition of the FP, applied in 2 purse seiners where
compared with the survey by CRO which is follow up actually to intend to evaluate the differences
and the similitude of these two approaches in order to estimate the specific composition of the FP
landed by the purse seiners in the fish port of Abidjan. The survey done by CRO has shown
aggregated result compared to the test survey. The last approach tried has permitted to highlight 4
specific groups in the FP. The test survey has also shown that the FP is transferred every from the
boat since 9:00 A.M until 7:00 P.M with a dominance of the group ravil. This last one has
presented in a proportion of 51 % in the 71 999 kg landed by a boat 1 and in a proportion of 85 %
in the 63 930 kg of the FP landed by a boat 2. The two surveys concord in the fact that Katsuwonus
pelamis is the majority specie in the 2 landings analyzed. Despite these findings, the informality
of this market still makes difficult the precision of these estimations of the specific composition of
the FP. Thus, for each landing, or an estimation of the species everyday in the level of each group
of FP should be functional and either samplings in 4 tanks of purse seiners should as well be tried.
