Abstract
The study on coral farming was realized in the reef of Sarodrano and at the
laboratory of Belaza, in the southwestern region of Madagascar from 16 December 2014 to 05
October 2015. Its objectives are to (i) create the mesocosms, (ii) to study the effect of seasons
and light on the survival and growth of corals cultivated. The experiment consists to install 04
tables which 02 per species (Acropora nasuta and Seriatopora cf. hystrix) in each site A, B
and C. Note that 40 cuttings per table were cultivated. Afterwards, 06 tables were used in site
C during the rainy and warm season and the dry and cold season. Finally, 09 tanks of 40L
with 10 cuttings per species in each were used in the laboratory. They were lit with different
luminosity. The results show that only in the site C that we observed the live cuttings after
one month of experience and the best growth rates of cuttings (2,17% for A. nasuta and
3,23% S. cf. hystrix). Then, there are more live cuttings in the rainy and warm season than in
the dry and cold season. The seasons have no effect on the growth of cuttings. Finally, the
increasing of luminosity doesn’t affect the survival of cuttings and the growth of A. Nasuta.
Though, the growth of S. cf. hystrix depends highly on brightness. More the luminosity is
raised, more the growth is supported.
