Abstract
A bioecology survey of lobsters and their fisheries were undertaken from September 2003 to February
2004 in Masoala Peninsula. The species survey and their habitats were carried out only in the three
marine parks whereas fisheries surveys were held in the peripheral zones. Four species were observed in
the survey area with Panulirus ornatus in sea grass bed, Panulirus versicolor in micro atolls, Panulirus
japonicus in crumbly reef and in the pass, while Panulirus penicillatus lives in turbulent zone of the reef.
This last species constitutes 99,58% of fishermen capture and presents a sexual dimorphism which
appears on size and weight. It is mainly fished with nets in a sex ratio of 52,40% female. The average
size of males is longer than females and the females are in period of maximum reproduction during the
first half time of the hot season (October at January). The capture per unit of effort is calculated; the
potential of the area is estimated.
